Hanna Gehling (RM MSc PhD cand) - Hanover Medical School

Hanna Gehling I trained and qualified as a midwife in 2006 in Ahlen/Germany and have worked as a staff midwife in Ireland (National Maternity Hospital Dublin) and Germany (St. Marienkrankenhaus Frankfurt) for three years.

During this time I had the opportunity to practice as a midwife in different European systems. During a one year placement as a volunteer in Malawi (South east Africa) I gained interesting insight into working and teaching as a midwife in low resource settings.

Here I realized that I enjoy teaching midwifery but also would like to learn more about my profession and how to push midwifery research forward in my own country.

Therefore I started to study midwifery science and qualified in 2012 as a Bachelor (Glasgow Caledonian University) and 2015 as a Master of Science in Midwifery (Hanover Medical School).

Following my studies I started my post as a lecturer and coordinator of the European Master of Science Midwifery programme at Hannover Medical School and am currently preparing for a PhD. My special interests lie in labour onset and the antenatal, labour and postnatal process as a whole.

As a young lecturer I am looking forward to meet many motivated students who are interested to push our profession forward to a better future for women, mothers, children and midwives!
